Who We Are

The University of Dar es Salaam - in the capital city of Tanzania - is incredibly excited to be a beneficiary member of Africa in the Moot. We hope to be a long time member of Africa in the Moot and a fierce competitor in the actual competition in Vienna.

Meet the Team

Dossier Makassy

Dossier Makassy is a fourth-year student pursuing a bachelor of law at the University of Dar es Salaam. She has a great interest in commercial law, contract law, corporate law, land law and human rights law. She participated as a volunteer for legal aid and services at G&S Associates in 2020 and since then at F&M law Chambers. She is excited to be part of the Willem. C Vis Moot, to learn and become better in the process.

 

Elaine Bawazir

Elaine Bawazir is a student at the University of Dar es Salaam School of Law. She has participated in several domestic and international moot competitions including the Alfred Deakin International Commercial Arbitration Moot. She cherishes the moot journey and the uniqueness of international commercial arbitration. Her interests in the law field include corporate law, international trade law and international commercial arbitration. She is honoured to be part of the Vis Moot team.

 

Elizabeth Godwin Kallaghe

Elizabeth Godwin Kallaghe is a fourth-year law student at the University of Dar es Salaam. Elizabeth is focused and committed to her interests in banking law, investment law, corporate law, juvenile law, and international commercial arbitration. She is excited to be part of the Vis Moot team.

 

Francisca Francis

Francisca is in her final year at the University of Dar es Salaam School of Law. Her interests include human rights, taxation law and commercial law. She is excited to participate in the Willem C. Vis Moot and polish her legal skills.

Getrude Makunganya

Getrude is a penultimate year University of Dar es Salaam law student. She is interested in investment law, international commercial law and international commercial arbitration.

She has a profound interest in mooting. She has participated in the Alfred Deakin International Commercial Arbitration Moot and the National All Africa IHL Moot Court Competition.

She is excited to be part of the Willem C Vis Moot team.

Joseph Masangula

Joseph is a third-year student pursuing a bachelor of Laws LL. B at the University of Dar es Salaam School of law (UDSoL). He is passionate about taking part in various domestic and international competitions as he believes taking part in such competitions will make him learn many things essential for the development of his career. Some of the competitions he has attended and won include The International Humanitarian Law (IHL) Essay Competition for East African Universities organized by the ICRC Nairobi Delegation and won the ( 2nd) second place, African Philanthropy Essay Competition (APN) won the 17th position, Alfred Deakin International Commercial Arbitration in 2022 and managed to reach the elimination round (16 teams) with my team from the University of Dar es Salaam, Victory Attorney National Moot Court Competition 2022 and emerged as the champions of the competition.

As the aspiring lawyer of tomorrow, his area of interest so far includes Commercial Arbitration, International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights Law. He understands the importance of moots as to him they are not only competitions but also a good platform for him to learn various things including advocacy skills, and research skills to mention a few. This is one of the reasons motivated and inspired him to take part in the 30th Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot 2023. To him, the moot is not only about winning a competition, but also, a platform to learn and acquire knowledge. He believes after taking part in the Vis Moot 2023 will not be the same as Joseph, but some things will be added to his mind such as advocacy skills, research skills, and getting to connect with young and talented future lawyers around the globe.

He is incredibly excited to be a part of his university’s team that will represent the university in the Willem C. Vis Moot 2023.

Naishoruno E. Wavii

Naishoruno E. Wavii is in her final academic year as an LLB student at the University of Dar es Salaam and a participant in the Vis Moot as her first mooting experience. She is deeply passionate about International Public and Private Laws including International Commercial Arbitration, International Trade Law and International humanitarian law. She is enthusiastic about mastering law at the international level and is genuinely excited to take part in the Vis moot competition.

Rose Mdenye

Rose is in her final year at the University of Dar Es Salaam (UDSM) in Tanzania, her areas of interest in law includes commercial law, insurance, International Trade and Arbitration. She joined the moot as she sees it as an opportunity to engage in learning and shaping her skills in problem solving and oral advocacy.

Catherine M. Mkama (Coach)

Catherine M. Mkama is a Bachelor of Laws (LL. B) Degree holder from University of Dar es Salaam who is currently a candidate at Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice.

 Catherine has a keen interest in international commercial arbitration and other cross-jurisdictional issues. Being a participant in the Willem C. Vis International Competition triggered her uncompromising ability and enthusiasm to coach students who participate in various moot court competitions. Catherine is looking forward to see how bright minds across the globe presents their arguments.

Fredrickson Maboko (Coach)

Fredrickson is a tax lawyer and consultant by profession and a mooter by passion. His interests include tax law, international trade law and international commercial arbitration. He has participated in various moots in his time as a student, including the Vis moot. He was part of the first Africa in the Moot cohort from the University of Dar es Salaam and continues to pursue his passion for mooting via coaching. Apart from the Vis, he has participated in the Great Lakes Regional Moot, Victory Attorney National Moot and Alfred Deakin ICA Moot.

Lucas Maduhu (Coach)

Lucas is a Coach of the team from the University of Dar es Salaam in the Deakin & Vis ICA Moots. As a lawyer and lifelong humanitarian, he has invested his concentrations in invaluable insight into Human Rights, Intellectual Property, Corporate Law, Litigation and Alternative Dispute Resolution. 

Previous to being a Coach, he participated in several Moot Courts including but not limited to the 14th Price Media Law Moot Court Competition of 2020/21 and the 13th Nelson Mandela World Human Rights Moot Court Competition of 2021. He participated in the 5th Alfred Deakin International Commercial Arbitration Moot, and the 29th Vis Wilhem C. ICA Moot in 2021/22 together with the University of Dar es Salaam’s first team ever. He credits the 5th Alfred Deakin ICA Moot for a new appreciation and curiosity for International Commercial Arbitration and a diverse bouquet of practical skills. 

Mariam Issa (Coach)

Mariam is an LL.B graduate from the University of Dar es Salaam. She has participated in both National and International Moot Court Competitions. She was in the first ever team to represent the University of Dar es Salaam in the Alfred Deakin International Commercial Arbitration Moot (2021) and the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot (2022). She is currently working as an intern at ARS Law and Advisories.
