Who We Are

Introducing the first ever Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot team from the Mogadishu University.

For the first time, the Mogadishu University Vis Moot Team will be proudly representing Mogadishu University and Somalia in the 32nd Vis Moot. This significant milestone not only highlights the talent and dedication of the the students, but also marks an important moment for Mogadishu University and law students in Somalia.

The team is excited to start with the oral phase of the competition, and to connect with students and practitioners from around the world.

Meet the Team

Ibrahim Abdullahi Ibrahim

Ibrahim Abdullahi is a senior law student at Mogadishu University with a deep passion for law practice and a strong commitment to international law. He has actively participated in various moot court competitions, showcasing his expertise and dedication to legal research. In 2023, he was part of the team that won the Somali National International Humanitarian Law (IHL) competition, a significant achievement that highlights his advocacy skills. He also contributed significantly to his team’s performance at the 22nd edition of the All Africa IHL competition held in Arusha.

Recently, he received recognition for his outstanding analytical and writing abilities in the 22nd Eastern African Essay Competition on IHL, where he was awarded Best Paper for Somalia. This accolade reflects his strong research skills and ability to articulate complex legal concepts.

As a founding member and the vice president of the Mogadishu University Moot Court Society, He has played a crucial role in fostering a culture of legal excellence among his peers. He also served as a moot coach for the Mogadishu University team, which recently won the Somali IHL competition in 2024, demonstrating his leadership and mentoring abilities.

Now, He is set to participate in the 32nd edition of the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot, further solidifying his foundation in international law and expanding his practical experience in legal advocacy.

Mohamed Farah

Mohamed Farah is a senior law student at Mogadishu University Faculty of Law and the founding Secretary General of the Mogadishu University Moot Court Society.

This year, Mohamed and his team are making history as the first and only Somali team participating in the 32nd Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot. Their groundbreaking involvement highlights Mogadishu University on the international legal stage.

A fervent mooter with extensive experience, Mohamed is dedicated to excellence in advocacy and justice. Through the Moot Court Society, he is fostering a vibrant community that empowers aspiring lawyers to develop their skills and confidence.

Sabirin Ahmed Mohamud

Sabirin Ahmed Mohamud is a committed law student at Mogadishu University, specializing in international law, commercial law, and public procurement law. Known for her dedication to arbitration and advocacy, Sabirin is currently participating in the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot, showcasing her fresh perspective on international dispute resolution and commercial matters.

Sabirin’s interest in arbitration is reflected in her academic focus on topics such as jurisdiction, admissibility, and discretion in arbitration proceedings. Her drive to master these subjects demonstrates her commitment to understanding critical aspects of international law, enhancing her strategic skills.

Beyond her academic pursuits, Sabirin is guided by a vision to improve access to effective legal frameworks throughout Africa. She believes that fair and robust legal systems play a crucial role in societal progress and is focused on deepening her knowledge in international law and arbitration. Sabirin aims to make a lasting impact on the field and contribute positively to society.

In the long term, Sabirin aspires to serve as Minister of Health. She is passionate about addressing health inequities in Somalia and establishing sustainable healthcare initiatives to provide access for all. Sabirin envisions using her legal background to shape policies ensuring quality healthcare resources reach urban and rural areas, advocating for preventative care and equitable distribution of services.

Samira Ahmed

Samira is a second-year law student at Mogadishu University with a deep interest in international justice, human rights, and advocacy. She is passionate about using the law to address pressing global issues and aspires to make a meaningful impact by promoting fairness and equality.

Her studies have fueled her curiosity about the role of law in shaping societies and protecting fundamental rights. She is eager to continue building her knowledge and skills, exploring how she can contribute to a more just and equitable world.

With determination and a strong sense of purpose, Samira is committed to pursuing a career in law that makes a positive difference in people’s lives and advances the principles of justice on a global scale.

Yusuf Ahmed Subow

Yusuf is a fourth year law student at Mogadishu University in Somalia with a passion for international trade law and commercial law. 

He has participated in the 33rd Christof Heyns Moot Competition and is keen to hone his skills through the Vis Moot experience.

Katherine Krudys (Coach)

Katherine is an associate in the International Arbitration Group at White & Case LLP in Washington, DC. She represents clients in both commercial and investor-State arbitrations and advises on national arbitration laws.

Prior to joining White & Case LLP, Katherine worked as an investigator in Washington, DC and then in Rwanda on an international investigation into the Rwandan Genocide.

Katherine is a graduate of University of Virginia School of Law, where she was a Monroe Leigh International Law Fellow and served on the managing board of the Virginia Journal of International Law and as President of the Extramural Moot Court Team. She also holds a law degree from Sciences Po Law School (Paris) and a Master's degree in International Relations from Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, specializing in international law and organizations.

Rokaya Kamel (Coach)

Rokaya is an Egyptian-qualified Junior Associate with a strong background in international arbitration and litigation. She has coached teams in various prestigious International and National Moot Court competitions. Her experience as a competitor, coach, and volunteer arbitrator has equipped her with a deep understanding of international commercial and investment arbitration.

Sulaiman Abdul Rahman (Coach)

Sulaiman is a dynamic & competent professional with extensive experience in the legal and policy industry. Skilled in Corporate Governance, Policy making, Administrative Law, Banking, Arbitration, Construction Law, Dispute Resolution, and Legal Research.

Dedicated and results-driven Legal and Policy Advisor with over 5 years of experience in providing strategic guidance to organizations. Adept at navigating complex legal landscapes, developing sound policies, and implementing effective strategies. Possesses a solid foundation in Administrative law, corporate governance, regulatory compliance, complemented by exceptional research, analytical, and communication skills.
