Who We Are

This is the team's second year of participation in the Vis Moot. The Vis Moot is a wonderful learning competition for students in the field of Arbitration and international commercial law. This year, the team is working hard to qualify to the round of 64 and beyond. We are also working hard to attain team, oralist and memorandum awards and Honourable mentions. We are also looking forward to the networking and fun that comes along with the Vis Moot.

Emmanuella Naa Ashardey Ashley

Emmanuella is a third-year student at the University of Ghana School of Law. She has a keen interest in the fields of Commercial, Company, International, Family, Finance and Personal Injury law. 

She also has an interest in Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), specifically Negotiation and Arbitration, which she picked up from her mother, an ADR practitioner. Her interest in ADR further flourished during internship experiences in two top law chambers in Ghana.

Her participation in an inter-firm moot competition at school as a researcher in her first year, after which her firm was awarded the best memorial, whetted her appetite for further participation in moot competitions. 

Her love for International law and Commercial law as well as her interest in Arbitration thus made her fascinated by the Vis Moot competition. 

She is very excited about participating in the 32nd Willem C. Vis Moot competition.

Henrietta Ntriwaa Adade

Henrietta is a second year student at the University of Ghana School of Law.

She was researcher for her firm during the Bentsi-Enchill, Letsa & Ankomah Moot Competition during her first year of law school. Henrietta's oratory skills have over the years been enhanced through the many public speaking and debate competitions she has participated in. She was an executive of the debaters’ club in high school.

She is excited to be a part of the UG Vis team this year. She looks forward to expanding her knowledge in the field of international commercial arbitration and every thing else the Vis Moot experience has to offer.

Laud Nii Mantey Annang

Laud Annang is a third-year student at the University of Ghana School of Law, with an interest in International Law. He is a mooter and writer. Laud is a two-time participant in the Bentsi Enchill, Letsa & Ankomah Moot Court Competition as a researcher and lead counsel, contributing to his firm's success as a finalist firm for two consecutive years.

Laud has previously served as a Senator of the Law Students’ Union, and is currently a member of the Library and Editorial Committee and a Senior Partner at Animus Domini Student Firm. He looks forward to furthering his knowledge of International Commercial Law and Arbitration through the Vis Moot.

Miriam Tukuu

Miriam is a third year student eager to constantly learn from every experience, to grow her expertise in the legal field.

Her passion for mooting was piqued by her participation in this year’s Bensti Enchill, Letsa & Ankomah Inter-Firm Moot Court Competition, where she gained practical knowledge in presenting complex legal arguments, as well as the intricacies of dispute resolution.

Miriam sees the Vis Moot as an avenue to strengthen her understanding of international commercial arbitration, and she is excited to be a part of the University’s team. 

She looks forward to meaningful contributions to her team’s success, all while honing the skills necessary for tacking complex legal issues.

Nahum Agyepong

Nahum is a third year student of the University of Ghana School of Law. He takes a keen interest in reading, writing poetry, conducting and facilitating research and public speaking among other things. With years of research experience owing to working under his Theologian lecturer father, he wields the skill of drafting convincing arguments for competitions and delivering them in an eloquent manner. Nahum has served in various leadership positions including representing students as a Senator of the University of Ghana Law Students’ Union Senate and the Chief of Staff of FALAS Ghana. He is also a recipient of the prestigious Lebanese Community in Ghana Scholarship. With his interest in advocacy, he represented Ghana in the Federation of African Law Students’ debate on international law, where he emerged as the best orator of the competition, helping secure a victory for the Republic of Ghana. 

As a Christian, Nahum believes everything he accomplishes is as a result of the favour and mercies of God. With his interest in International Law, Nahum wants to pursue Commercial, Immigration, and Real Estate Law.

Audrey Asamoah Karikari

Audrey is a final year student at the University of Ghana School of Law. Audrey’s interest in international arbitration was sparked after a virtual internship with White and Case. She has also completed an internship at Dominion Chambers in Ghana. Audrey is looking forward to a successful Vis season and contributing to the arbitration community.

Bezawit Jaleta (Coach)

Bezawit Mesfin Jaleta is an Assistant Lecturer of Law at Addis Ababa University. She graduated with her LL.B Degree from Addis Ababa University School of Law in 2022 winning a gold medal for being the highest-scoring student of the year.

As a student, Bezawit has actively engaged in international moot court competitions, including the William C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot and the Nuremberg Moot Court Competition on International Criminal Law.

After graduating, she worked in renowned Ethiopian Law firms and then moved to the academic career. At Addis Ababa University, she has coached teams for the Ethiopian National Moot Court Competition and the Phillip C. Jessup Moot Court Competition.

Currently pursuing her LL.M degree in Business Law, Bezawit holds interest in international law, international commercial law, international commercial arbitration, human rights law, and mooting.

Being an Africa in the Moot alumni herself, Bezawit is delighted to give back and contribute to the success of the organization. 

Leonard Helbrecht (Coach)

Leonard is a law student at the University of Freiburg in Germany. Last year he was immersed in a year-long exchange at Keio University in Tokyo, where he took part in the LL.M. program. He returned to Germany in August to continue his studies in Freiburg. 

Leonard participated in the 30th Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot, where he discovered his passion for international arbitration. He looks back on his participation in the Vis Moot as an intense and exciting experience, which allowed him to meet practitioners from all over the world and to make friends globally. 

Last year, he coached the University of Ghana’s Vis Moot team. Leonard is excited to continue working with a new generation of mooties and to support them on their way to Vienna.

Gifty Emmanuella Buernarki Buertey (Coach)

Gifty is a student at the University of Ghana School of Law with a passion for international law and arbitration. She was a member of the University of Ghana team in the 31st Vis Moot. This experience not only honed her advocacy skills but also deepened her understanding of international dispute resolution.

Currently, Gifty serves as Co-Head of the External Competitions Committee of the UG Law Students Union, where she assists and supervises international moot teams, fostering their growth and success in global competitions. Building on her Vis Moot experience, she is excited to serve as coach and coordinator for the 2025 UG Vis Team.

She looks forward to an exciting season, eager to witness the growth and development of the team as they navigate the complexities of international dispute resolution.

Samuel Kwame Kumi (Coach)

​​Samuel Kwame Kumi is a private legal practitioner and lecturer. He holds an LLB and an LLM from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and a Qualifying Certificate from the Ghana School of Law. His LLM thesis focused on the technology and arbitral laws in Ghana, Nigeria and Rwanda and how disputes that arose in the technology space could be resolved.

Samuel has valuable experience working with top-tier law firms in Ghana and has been involved in the representation of corporate institutions during litigation and Alternative Dispute Resolution proceedings. He has keen interest in arbitration, IT law, energy law, intellectual property law and medical law and has published articles in these areas. He has acted as a resource person on legal matters, one recently being an invited speaker on arbitration at the University of Ghana School of Law’s “Law Week”. 

Samuel is an alumni of the Karl-Heinz Böckstiegel Foundation Scholarship and is a member of the Young International Council for Commercial Arbitration (Young ICCA) and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArB). 

He listens to music, watches basketball and is a competitive amateur video gamer when he is not working.
