Who We Are

The University of Lagos Vis Moot team is composed of six talented mooties: Ewaoluwagbemiga Praise, Ayomipo Adesanya, Timilehin Ibrahim, Divine Emekpo, Samuel Oderinde, and Michael Adedayo. They are guided by four dedicated coaches—Betty Elikwu, Chidera Okoro, Caroline Briedl, and Muhammad Faisal.

Last year, the team made history as the first-ever West African team to reach the round of 64, a remarkable achievement that showcases their exceptional legal prowess and determination.

Ayomipo Adesanya

Ayomipo is a fourth-year law student at the University of Lagos, with practical legal experience gained from interning at top Nigerian law firms. Her leadership roles include serving as the Assistant General Secretary for the Justice Kayode Eso Student Chamber and currently as the Director of Research in the ADR Society. The Vis Moot marks her first experience mooting and she is eager to apply her research skills and legal knowledge in this new and competitive field.

Divine Emekpo

Divine Emekpo is a dynamic fourth-year law student at the University of Lagos, Nigeria, with a Renaissance personality that drives her diverse interests in law (arbitration), tech, and finance. As a research analyst and management consultant with The Investment Society, University of Lagos, she applies her analytical skills to real-world challenges. Her leadership experience includes serving as General Secretary II of the Oil and Gas Bar, where she fostered engagement in the energy sector.

Passionate about volunteering and the advancement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Divine is committed to creating meaningful social impact. With a visionary mindset, she actively seeks opportunities that resonate with her interdisciplinary pursuits and long-term goals.

Ibrahim Timilehin

Timilehin Queen-Elizabeth Ibrahim is a final year law student with a keen interest in corporate and international law. She is an avid debater and public speaker and has won multiple awards including the Wole Soyinka Essay Award 2020 and the Dipo Diya Public Speaker Merits Award.

Beyond her academic pursuits, she is a multimedia manager and content creator, working with various brands to enhance their digital presence and is currently contributing her skills to The Cable Newspaper as their multimedia manager and Assistant Secretary General I of the Lagos Model United Nations 2024.

Michael Adedayo

Adedayo Michael A. is a law student of the Faculty of Law, University of Lagos. He believes in the supremacy of good substance , effective communication and delivery in discourses and dispute resolution, which is why he enjoys mooting, debating, and public speaking. He has participated in a number of competitions.

Praise Ewaoluwagbemiga

Ewaoluwagbemiga Praise is a year 4 law student of the University of Lagos, with particular interest in commercial transactions, arbitration as well as sports law. He is also a developing graphics designer and loves to sing, play the guitar, skate, swim and play volleyball at his leisure time. Above all, he is a person who believes in the idea of self-conscious development.

Samuel Oderinde

Oderinde Samuel is a third-year law student at the University of Lagos, with interests in commercial law, trade law, property law, and ADR, particularly international commercial arbitration. As the Director of Research for the ADR Society, he advances research in dispute resolution.

His work experience includes a Legal Internship at Beryl Securities, where he conducted legal research and drafted documents, and a Digital Marketing Internship at NeoDocto, where he developed organizational and communication skills.

Samuel also participated in the Alfred Deakin International Commercial Arbitration Moot.

Muhammad Faisal Hayat (Coach)

Muhammad Faisal Hayat is a final-year law student at NUST Law School. He serves as a co-founder of the Pakistan Vis Alumni Network. In collaboration with the U.S. Department of Commerce's CLDP, he has played a pivotal role in advancing ADR practices in Pakistan, organizing courses on International Commercial Arbitration and the Willem C. Vis Moot. He has delivered presentation sessions on ADR at numerous universities. Additionally, he organized the first-ever arbitration moot in Pakistan to cultivate students' interest further.

Faisal has participated in several moot competitions, including the Willem C. Vis Moot, Vienna, and Henry Dunant Moot Court competitions. His team emerged as a finalist in the 3rd IAC Central Asia Vis Pre-moot in Astana, Kazakhstan.

As a coach, his team from the University of Lagos advanced to the Round of 64 in the 31st Vis Moot Vienna and won the East Africa Vis Pre-moot. He has interned at various law firms and institutions in Pakistan and abroad. Faisal is also an author at the Kluwer Arbitration Blog and occasionally writes about dispute resolution and private international law.

Caroline Briedl (Coach)

Caroline Briedl is a dedicated fifth-year law student at the Faculty of Law, University of Vienna in Austria. Her interest in ADR developed during her time as a representative of the University of Vienna in the 30th Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot and the 20th Vis East Moot Competition. 

In the 20th Vis East, Caroline was awarded an honorable mention for best individual oralist (Neil Kaplan Award). However, most noteworthy her team won first place during the orals in the 30th Vis Moot (Eric E. Bergsten Award) as well as second place for best memorandum for claimant (Peter Sanders Award).

Since then, Caroline has continued to focus on arbitration, working as a law clerk in the Dispute Resolution Department at Baker McKenzie Austria. At the moment she is expanding her experience in ADR by participating in the ICC Mediation Moot Court. 

Currently, she’s excited to be coaching the University of Lagos team for the 32nd Vis Moot and looks forward to supporting them in their upcoming journey.

Chidera Okoro (Coach)

Chidera Okoro is a final year Law student at the University of Lagos. She is the President of ADR Society, University of Lagos and a teams coordinator for Africa in the Moot. She is a passionate debater and mootie. Chidera was a member of the champion team of the FDI Moot African Regionals 2022 which was the first West African team to ever win the FDI African Regionals. She was also a member of Lagos Team 1, which won the Alfred Deakin Moot Competition 2022. The team was equally the first African team to ever win the competition. 

Chidera was a member of the University of Lagos Vis Moot team which participated in the 30th and 31st Willem C. Vis ICA Moot and the team reached the Round of 64 in the 31st Vis Moot. They were the first West African team to achieve this. 

She has coached the University of Lagos’ 2024 FDI Moot and Alfred Deakin Moot team. She is currently a coach for the University of Lagos’ team for the 32nd Vis Moot. 

She has a great interest in international and commercial law as well the various ADR mechanisms. She also loves to read. 

Betty Elikwu (Coach)

Betty Elikwu is a fourth-year law student at the University of Lagos. She also serves as the Teams Coordinator for Africa in the Moot.

In 2022, Betty secured the title of Winner of the African Regional Rounds of the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) Moot. She also represented her university in the 30th and 31st Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot, with her team becoming the first from West Africa to reach the round of 64 in the 31st edition. In 2023, she emerged as the First Runner-up in the Alfred Deakin International Commercial Arbitration Moot and Winner of the East African Pre-Moot.

Beyond competing, Betty has also taken on a coaching role, leading the University of Lagos team to a second runner-up position in the African Regional round of the 2024 Foreign Direct Investment Moot. She coached the team for the 2024 Alfred Deakin International Commercial Arbitration Moot as well. Currently, she is dedicated to preparing the team for the upcoming 32nd Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot. 

Betty furthers her advocacy for alternative dispute resolution as the Vice President of the ADR Society at UNILAG. When she’s not diving into her legal pursuits, Betty loves trying out new cooking recipes, adding a fun and creative break to her busy schedule.
