Who We Are
Makerere University joined the Africa in the Moot initiative in 2021 and will be participating in the Vis Moot in its 31st edition. They are extremely dedicated to doing their country proud.
The Moot Society of Makerere University keenly selected a team of five dedicated individuals united by their passion for arbitration, unwavering work ethic, and exceptional research skills.
Edisa Antonietta Longo
Edisa-Antonietta Longo is in her third year of study at the Makerere University School of Law.
The chapter of moot courts for Edisa started in her first year, where she won a round of the Uganda Wildlife Authority Inter firm Moot League. Her research and editorial work in last year's Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot grounded her interest in the study and practice of arbitration.
In her role as Vice President of the Makerere Moot Society, there has been increased participation in arbitration centered moot competitions, such as the Resolve360 Ltd competition where she was coordinator and coach for the groundbreaking Makerere teams who won the written and oral rounds of the moot.
Edisa works as Public Relations Officer of the the Uganda Vis Society, an alumni association formed by her former teammates to empower the next generation of arbitration practitioners in Uganda, whose aim is to tell Uganda's story in the realm of international commercial arbitration.
An avid reader and occasional writer, a defining quote of hers comes from the Game of Thrones franchise, "A mind needs books like a sword needs a whetstone, if it is to keep its edge".
Evelyn Angella Nsemere
Evelyn Nsemere is an innovative, dynamic, and flexible individual with a passion for literature, creative arts, and languages (currently learning French).
In addition to her daily law school commitments, she serves as an editor at the Makerere Law Journal.
As a dedicated problem solver, Nsemere firmly believes that arbitration is pivotal in resolving disputes while fostering amicable relations between different states. She sees it as a key tool for fostering development not only in Uganda but across East Africa and the entire African continent.
Ian Kasadha Masedhere
The dynamic and driven Ian Kasadha Masedhere is a third-year law student at Makerere University.
As a fellow under DLA Piper’s Global Scholarship Program, he receives hands-on mentorship from established global practitioners in the field who continue to be instrumental in his journey into the multifaceted spheres of dispute resolution and commercial law.
His involvement as an editor with the MAKERERE LAW JOURNAL showcases his meticulous attention to detail and analytical prowess.
Isabel Nicole Atai
Atai Isabel Nicole, a third-year law student, holds the esteemed position of Minister for Constitutional Affairs within the African Law Students Association. Her leadership role exemplifies her commitment to fostering inclusive dialogue and advancing constitutional understanding.
Her enthusiasm for public speaking and debate shines through in every engagement. As a seasoned debater and captivating speaker, Atai has honed her skills in articulating complex ideas with clarity and conviction.
It was during her participation in Resolve 360, an arbitration moot competition, where she discovered a newfound interest in arbitration. This experience deepened her appreciation for the intricacies of arbitration processes and inspired her to delve further into this field.
With a genuine fondness for understanding legal nuances, Atai brings a refreshing simplicity and authenticity to her endeavors, making her a relatable and influential figure within her academic circles.
Youb Webisa
Webisa Youb is an ambitious determined, visionary; passionate about writing, public speaking and creative art.
Through trading in vehicle auto-parts when he is not in school, Webisa has developed a knack for transnational commercial transactions. He believes that arbitration could be the key to promoting effectual regional integration of the East African Community.
Webisa is also an editor at the Makerere Law Journal and public relations officer at Rule of Law C, Makerere University Chapter.
Annie Maria Adikin (Coach)
Annie Adikin is the domestic coach of the 31st Vis Moot Team Makerere University.
Annie took part in the 30th Annual Willem C. Vis Moot in Vienna, Austria. She emerged as the best individual oralist in the East Africa Vis Pre-Moot last year in Nairobi, Kenya organized by Africa in the Moot. She views the Vis experience as a life changing one that has spurred her to pursue a legal career in Alternative Dispute Resolution.
Annie joined Africa in the Moot to support the initiative promoting African teams' participation in the Vis Moot. She is a member of the Education and Training Committee, Africa in the Moot.
At Makerere University, she currently serves as the Deputy Editor-In-Chief of the Makerere Law Journal, a leading hub of legal academia in the region. She also sits as the Sub-Saharan Africa Regional Representative on the Core Team of the Vis Moot Alumni Association.
