4th East Africa Pre-Moot & Arbitration Conference

The 4th East Africa Pre-Moot will take place in Nairobi, Kenya from 17 to 21 February 2025. This award-winning event is the only event of its kind in Sub-Saharan Africa, and comprises two days of workshops and trainings for Africa in the Moot teams, networking opportunities for teams and practitioners alike, and the pre-moot competition.

The Pre-Moot Competition will be held over 20-21 February 2025.

Interested teams, arbitrators and prospective sponsors of the event are welcome, as we bring the truly global nature of international arbitration, commercial law and the Vis Moot to the African continent. Please express your interest and register by contacting info@africainthemoot.com.

Alfred Deakin International Commercial Arbitration Moot 2024, Oral Rounds

In partnership with Deakin University and the Deakin Law School, many Africa in the Moot teams are invited to participate in this virtual moot. In 2024 12 teams will be participating. The Alfred Deakin ICA Moot provides law students from Australia and overseas with the opportunity to develop practical skills, and engage with international commercial law and arbitration.

By participating in the moot, students can develop their advocacy skills and engage with experienced legal professionals, allowing them to expand their knowledge and network with potential future colleagues. Good luck to all participants!

We are excited to continue breaking records for African participation in this prestigious event, with 12 teams participating in-person in Vienna. This is the largest cohort of Sub-Saharan African teams that has participated in the Vis Moot history, and indicates an increase African representation of over 350% since 2021. 3rd Annual East Africa Pre-Moot

Third time is the charm! We are proud to present the 3rd Annual East Africa Pre-Moot, with 12 competing teams from 8 African nations. The East Africa Pre-Moot is the largest in-person Pre-Moot in Sub-Saharan Africa for the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot. The East Africa Pre-Moot comprises 2 days of intensive workshops, followed by 2 days of oral arguments, and exciting social events for all participants in between. It is the only event of it’s kind.

For many participating teams, this year is their respective university’s first year competing. For most teams, the East Africa Pre-Moot will be their first opportunity to test their skills against other teams, in person, and to build on their networks. We offer all participating students, coaches and participants four exciting days with great academic opportunities that will offer students valuable skills for their competition in the Willem C. Vis Moot, as well as for their future careers.

This AFAS Conversation Series is hosted by Arbitration Fund for African Students (AFAS) in collaboration with the Africa Arbitration Academy and Africa in the Moot. African arbitration leaders recognized in Africa's 30 Most Promising Arbitration Practitioners of 2022 will be interviewed by future lawyers in Africa in the Moot. The East Africa Pre-Moot comprises 2 days of intensive workshops, followed by 2 days of oral arguments, and exciting social events for all participants in between.

For many participating teams, this year is their respective university’s first year competing. For most teams, the East Africa Pre-Moot will be their first opportunity to test their skills against other teams, in person. We hope to offer all participating students, coaches and participants four exciting days with great academic opportunities that will offer students valuable skills for their competition in the Willem C. Vis Moot, as well as for their future careers. In addition, we hope that these four days will allow all the teams to get to know and learn from each other, and from the many wonderful practitioners that are joining the event as faculty and arbitrators.

We look forward to seeing our talented teams in action in the oral rounds and to providing an amazing learning experience and exposure to the arbitration community.
