Who We Are
Cavendish University was founded in 2008 in Kampala, Uganda. They joined the Africa in the Moot initiative for the 2022 Willem C. Vis Moot which represented their first time participating in the Moot.
The team for the 31st Vis Moot is comprised of six undergraduate law students, who are: Ms.
Lindah Mirembe, Ms. Marian Kiconco, Ms. Marilyn Kirabo, Ms. Marysent Kihembo, Ms.
Precious Ampumuza and Ms. Winfred Lukowe. The Cavendish Vis Team is coached by Mr.
Godfrey Ayeranga, Ms. Winfred Nakkazi Kiberu and Ms. Barbara Ayimba.
Kiconco Marian Abiine
Marian is a third year law student at Cavendish University, Uganda. She has a keen interest in the field of arbitration and is similarly an advocate for the attainment of social justice through the Cavendish University Law Clinic.
Having started her mooting journey in first year, she has participated in various intra university moots, the Alfred Deakin International Commercial Arbitration Moot 2023 and as a researcher in the 30th Vis Moot. These experiences highly encouraged her to apply for the 31st Vis Moot.
Marian believes that the Vis will help her to not only refine her research and advocacy skills, but will also be a great step towards her captivating story of growth and passion.
Marilyn Kirabo Abiine
Marilyn is currently pursuing a bachelors degree in law, in her third year at Cavendish University Uganda.
Marilyn has a strong passion for the field of arbitration and is equally dedicated to advocating for human rights through her involvement in the Human rights club at Cavendish university.
Her participation in the 30th Vis moot as a researcher ignited her passion for international arbitration. Subsequently, she took part in the Alfred Deakin International Commercial Arbitration competition, further enriching her understanding of arbitration.
Marilyn looks forward to gaining even more profound insights into commercial arbitration through her participation in the 31st Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration moot.
Mirembe Lindah Namulema
Mirembe Lindah is an LLB Student who is passionate about arbitration and also advocates for human rights.
She has participated various Abitration moots for instance the Alfred Deakin Arbitration Moot and the Resolve 360 Arbitration moot.
She also intends to improve her legal research skills through the VIS Moot. She looks forward to a very fruitful journey in Arbitration.
Precious Rinah Ampumuza
Precious is a Ugandan law student at Cavendish University Uganda.
Precious is in her second year at the University.
Godfrey Ayeranga (Coach)
Godfrey is a Law Lecturer and Moot Court Coordinator at Cavendish University Uganda.
Godfrey is a former mootie who has previously participated in a number of national and international moot competitions as a participant, coach and judge. These include: the AlexandriaU-CRCICA Arbitration Initiative Premoot 2023, Africa in the Moot East-Africa Premoot 2023, Christof Heyns African Human Rights Moot Court Competition 2020-2022, Alfred Deakin International Commercial Arbitration Moot 2022-2023, National Inter-University International Humanitarian Law Moot Court Competition 2020-2023, Willem C. Vis Middle East International Commercial Arbitration Moot, Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot, 2021 Nuremberg Moot Court Competition, Price Media Law Moot Competition, Foreign Direct Investment International Arbitration Moot, Jean-Pictet Moot Court Competition 2015, among others.
Beyond mooting, Godfrey is a human rights lawyer and researcher with his research interests focusing on prisoner’s rights, International Commercial law, maternal health, socio-economic rights, social justice, International law, Criminal justice and International Criminal law.
Winfred Nakkazi Kiberu (Coach)
Winnie is an aspiring young lawyer working in the climate impact investment sector. She graduated from Strathmore Law School (SLS) with a bachelor’s degree in law. During her time at SLS she participated in a number of extracurricular activities including the 28th Willem C. Vis Moot, in which she and her teammates progressed to the Round of Sixteen and she received an Honourable Mention for Best Oralist.
Winnie has been a member of Africa in the Moot since its inception, serving as an assistant coach to the 2021 SLS Deakin Moot Team, as head coach to the University of The Gambia in the 29th and 30th Vis moots, and as a member of the first Teams Coordination Committee during the 30th Vis Moot season. She looks forward to serving a second term on the Teams Coordination Committee and to see what the new season holds.
Winnie joined Africa in the Moot to share the amazing lessons and opportunities she gained from participating in the 28th Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot (Vis Moot). Winnie wanted to be part of the movement promoting the education of international commercial law on the African continent.
Barbara Ayimba (Coach)
Barbara Ayimba is a final year student at the University of Nairobi where she is pursuing a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree. She has a keen interest in the areas of international economic law and international dispute resolution. She is also a mentee under the Vis Moot Alumni Association Mentorship Programme where she is working with Professor Emilia Onyema.
Having participated in various moot court competitions on International Commercial Arbitration including the 30th session of the Willem C. Vis Moot, she is happy to join Africa in the Moot as a coach for Cavendish University Uganda and give back having seen the benefit of the moot from her experience.
She looks forward to creating a great work environment that will allow the team to have the best possible experience through the session and eventually represent Uganda at the main competition in Vienna!
