Who We Are

The University of Namibia (UNAM) is the largest and leading National institution of higher education in Namibia, founded in 1992.

As its first time participating in the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot, the team is looking forward to the wonderful learning opportunity that lies ahead of them. Together with their coaches, they are confident that they will bring a win back home.

Meet the Team

Aurelia Daniel

Aurelia is a third year law student at the University of Namibia. After participating in her first ever mooting competition in her first year, hosted by the Law Association for Mooting and Advocacy, Aurelia discovered her passion for mooting. She believes that this Vis Moot will further her skills in legal research and oral advocacy.

She further believes that this completion will bless her with invaluable practical insight in the field of law. As the first ever team from UNAM to participate in the Vis Moot, Aurelia is excited about what her team, which she leads, is going to bring to the world. She anticipates that this competition will push her to dive deep into her skills of extensive research, critical thinking, and responding to complex legal questions.

The exposure she will get from this experience, by being in the same room with like-minded individuals in the legal field and engaging with her peers in law from all over the world, will leave an unforgettable mark on her path toward becoming a legal professional.

Bonifatius Fikameni Kalenga

Bonifatius Fikameni Kalenga is a first-year law student at the University of Namibia and holds a National Diploma in Legal studies from the Triumphant College School of Law. In furtherance, he served as a chairperson of the Triumphant College Law Society in the years 2021 to 2023.

Bonifatius has participated in various inter-university moots that includes the ENSafrica Moot Court Competition and the LAMA Moot Court Competition. He believes that these experiences will enrich his participation in the Vis Moot as he brings his extensive research skills, analysis and creative problem-solving approaches.

In his own words, “mooting does not only expose you to different stages of competition where it pillars your litigation skills, but also refines your approaches to complex legal problems’’.

Caroline Kanghono

Caroline Kanghono is a third-year law student at the University of Namibia with a strong passion for human rights and social justice. Known for her leadership and commitment, she actively participates in the Federation of African Law Students, where she currently serves as the Finance Director. In this role, she contributes to organizing and hosting moot court competitions, gaining practical experience in the legal field while enhancing her skills in event coordination and financial management.

Caroline also has an impressive background in public speaking, having been a high school debater, and now a competitor in prestigious moot court competitions.

Helena Shikomba

Helena is a third-year law student at the University of Namibia who is passionate about the complexities of contract law, an area, she believes, forms the backbone of both personal and commercial relationships. With a strong academic focus on the formation, interpretation, and enforcement of contracts, she is always eager to deepen her understanding and apply her knowledge in a practical legal setting.

In addition to her academic pursuits, Helena serves as the Public Relations Officer for her university’s Law Students Council and Law Association of Mooting and Advocacy where she engages in fostering communication between students and faculty, organizing events, and representing the interests of her peers.

Outside of law, Helena is an active participant in charitable initiatives and physical activities. Volunteering for various causes has instilled a deep sense of social responsibility in her, while staying engaged in fitness routines helps her maintain focus and resilience both in her academic work and personal life.

Helena considers herself quick-witted and with a robust background in communications, debate, public speaking and legal theory. She is excited to put her skills to the test on an international stage.

Johandre Dege

Johandre is currently completing their third year of LLB studies at the University of Namibia. Despite not competing in moot court before, they have attended various competitions with the objective of learning. This exposure sparked a strong interest in moot court participation, especially in honing skills relevant to their keen interest in commercial law.

Beyond academics, Johandre has a deep interest in debating and unprepared orals, where quick thinking and persuasive skills are essential. They placed fourth in the junior chess championships, and while chess is now a hobby, it has developed their strategic approach to challenges. In sports, Johandre captained a local rugby club and represented Namibia as a non-traveling reserve, though an injury ended their rugby journey.

Looking forward to the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot, Johandre is eager to learn, grow, and contribute to this year’s team. In their own words, “Competing in moot court is a valuable opportunity to sharpen my legal skills and connect with like-minded peers committed to excellence in law.”

Utuapo Tjipetekera

Recently, they claimed victory in the 2024 LAMA annual moot court competition, impressing a sitting judge of the High Court of Namibia. Representing UNAM at the Willem C.
