Who We Are

The University of Addis Ababa joined the Africa in the Moot initiative in 2021. Though their law school had not participated in the Willem C. Vis Moot competition before, they are incredibly eager to attend and show a strong performance in the 29th iteration of the Moot.

Meet the Team

Alebel Ashagrie Endalew

Alebel Ashagrie is passionate about arbitration and dispute resolution and large. He graduated with distinction in 2012 and obtained his Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) Degree from Wollo University. He is currently doing an LL.M in Business Law at the Addis Ababa University. He received an Award of Congratulations from Oxford University in 2011 for his winning business proposal and is a member of Young ICCA.

 

Awoke Mitku Tamrat

Awoke Mitku is in his final year of his legal studies at Addis Ababa University (AAU) and expects to graduate in July 2022. During his studies, Awoke has participated in various extracurricular activities including a Human Rights Essay Competition, a conference with NorthWestern University on Clinical Legal Education, and a position as a Research Assistant to Dr. Wondwossen Demissie (Associate Professor of Law at the Addis Ababa University). Awoke is passionate about dispute resolution, arbitration, and human rights law.

 

Naol Bayisa Meskela

Naol Bayisa is a LL.M student in Business Law at the Addis Ababa University School of Law. He is especially interested in the areas of commercial law, arbitration, intellectual property law, and banking law. Naol believes that the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot will be a grand opportunity for him to expand his knowledge in the area of commercial arbitration and help him conduct extensive research as well as to put forward advanced legal arguments.

 

Samuel Getachew

Samuel Getachew is in his final year of LL.M study in Business Law at the Addis Ababa University (AAU) Law School. His interests include Disability Rights, Labor Law, Arbitration, and Business Law. He credits the 29th Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot for a new appreciation and curiosity for international commercial arbitration and diverse practical skills.

Hamrawi Kelemu

Hamrawi Kelemu is completing her final year at the Addis Ababa University, Law School. Although she is interested in all spheres of the law, her major passions lie within corporate and commercial law, investment law, bankruptcy law, arbitration, and construction law. Her time as a seasoned mooter at both national and continental levels has equipped her with a love for practicing hypotheticals as real world problems.

 

Bezawit Mesfin

Bezawit Mesfin is a final year student at Addis Ababa University School of Law and Governance studies. She is interested in international law, international humanitarian law, international trade law, refugee law, diplomacy, leadership, governance and dispute resolution. She is excited to embark on the educational and competitive journey that is the Willem C. Vis Moot.

 

Brook Leulseged (observer)

Brook Leulseged is in his final year at the Addis Ababa University Law School. He is also in his final year majoring in accounting at the Bahir Dar University. He is interested in commercial law, legislative drafting, financial intelligence, and investment arbitration. Brook has participated in various moot courts and as such developed his research, writing, and public-speaking skills.

 

Fikiru Tafese (observer)

Fikiru Tafese is a business lawyer who is currently working as an attorney in a construction company. Fikiru is studying business law at the Addis Ababa University School of law. His LL.B degree was obtained from the Mekelle University in 2013. He is very much interested in practicing in corporate law and arbitration and is involved in the 29th Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot as part of the Addis Ababa University team, as an observer.

Bezawit Zerihun (observer)

Bezawit Zerihun is a fifth year law student at the Addis Ababa University. She is interested in international arbitration law which is why she is excited about the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot. Like her colleagues, Bezawit also gives a great value for reading and this helps her to get through her law school studies successfully. Having been a law student for the last four years, she believes in hard work and commitment.
