Meet the Team
Edwin E. Mkoba
Edwin Mkoba is a Second-year law student at Mzumbe University. His interest in law emerged from his interest in justice, equality and doing what is right.
Edwin enjoys Contract Law and Alternative Dispute Resolution. His interests in the named courses pushed him to apply and join the 30th Willem C. Vis Moot team for Mzumbe University to endow him with an opportunity to further learn different perspectives on contract law and ADR, particularly, International Commercial Arbitration.
Fun Fact about Edwin is that; he can light up the room to all smiles and give a 3-minute dimension of the case file like the inception.
Sophia George
Sophia is a Second-year law student at Mzumbe University. She is a regular young lady who is passionate in unleashing her potentials and learning new skills. She has avid interest in Energy and Gas Law; alongside extensive reading. She loves poetry, public speaking and leadership; community and social work as a well as charitable activities to empower the Girl Child.
Sophia started venturing in Moot Court participation when she was in High School – in form of debatable hypothetical scenarios. She participated in the 2022 Alfred Deakin International Commercial Arbitration Moot in September, 2022; leaving her with incredible lessons including, time management and succinct Advocacy Skills.
Sophia applied for and was lucky to join the 30th Willem C. Vis Moot team for Mzumbe University to feed her hunger and curiosity for learning International Arbitration and developing new soft skills which would be a good benchmark for her legal practice in the legal profession.
Lightness Chuwa
Lightness is a Second-year Law student at Mzumbe University with an interest in International Law, International Commercial Arbitration and Energy and Gas Law. She has a keen interest in helping the society around her through amicable dispute resolution mechanisms.
Lightness has actively participated in different Moot Court Competitions including the 2022 Alfred Deakin International Commercial Arbitration Moot in September. She is very excited and possesses a high spirit of interest in participating in the 30th Willem C. Vis Moot on International Commercial Arbitration.
Lightness has a strong belief that participating in the 30th Willem C. Vis Moot on International Commercial Arbitration will develop her Advocacy Skills, and Public Speaking skills, amongst many other skills for a better legal practice career.
Malewo Chiwanga
Malewo Chiwanga is a Second-year law student at Mzumbe University. She is a bibliophile who is very interested in International Arbitration and Commercial Law.
Malewo also has great interest in Environmental Conservation and Climate Change agendas for eventual development in Tanzania and Africa.
Conradus D. Kakoko
Conradus is a Second-year law student at Mzumbe University with special interest in Arbitration Law, International Human Rights Law and IT Law.
He participated in the 2022 Alfred Deakin International Commercial Arbitration Moot in September. He was lucky to apply and join the 30th Willem C. Vis Moot team for Mzumbe University.
Conradus has a passion for law and how to apply the law to bring balance of justice and right to everyone in the society. He further has a deep ambition to help young people in Africa in their pursuit for societal and community development.
Mark-Silas .A. Malekela (Coach)
Mark is an ambitious, focused and committed trainee lawyer, and a Bachelor of Laws (LL. B) Degree Candidate with special interest in ICT Law, International Commercial Arbitration and International Law.
Mark possesses the ability to work independently and as part of a team and can make valuable contributions to any legal team, thanks to his strong research, writing and communication skills. He possesses an interest in Writing Articles (Legal and Opinions), stories and engagement in Sustainable Development Activities for Youth in Tanzania. He contributed to the June 2021 Issue of the ACICA Review Journal on International Dispute Resolution, and the Journal for Contemporary Legal Studies (CALS) at Mzumbe University; and actively publishes on the Social Science Research Network (SSRN) Database.
Prior to coaching the 2022/23 Mzumbe University Vis Moot Team, Mark actively participated in inter-class Faculty Moot Courts and international Moot Courts, including the Alfred Deakin International Commercial Arbitration Moot Court (Deakin Law School, Australia), Africa in the Moot Regional Moot Court (Nairobi, Kenya) and the 30th Willem C. Vis Moot in International Commercial Arbitration (Vienna, Austria).
Elizabeth Tarimo (Coach)
Elizabeth Tarimo is a trainee lawyer and a Bachelor of Laws (LL. B) Degree Candidate from Mzumbe University. She has an avid interest and specialisation in International Humanitarian Law alongside a keen interest in International Arbitration and Commercial Law.
Elizabeth actively participated in the Africa in the Moot Regional Moot Court (Nairobi, Kenya) and the 30th Willem C. Vis Moot on International Commercial Arbitration (Vienna, Austria).
Elizabeth values and looks forward to highly supporting Tanzanian teams participating in the Willem C. Vis Moot on International Commercial Arbitration.
Edmund Gilles (Coach)
Edmund Gilles is a law student at Mzumbe University with special interest in International Humanitarian Law, Public International Law and International Commercial Arbitration.
Edmund also possesses interests in championing for equal access to education especially in the rural parts of Tanzania. He is also a firm believer to women and children’s rights and their empowerment.
Prior to coaching the 2022/23 Mzumbe University Vis Moot Team, Edmund actively participated in the Alfred Deakin International Commercial Arbitration Moot Court (Deakin Law School, Australia), Africa in the Moot Regional Moot Court (Nairobi, Kenya) and the 30th Willem C. Vis Moot in International Commercial Arbitration (Vienna, Austria).
Philippine Chapot (Coach)
Philippine is currently writing her LLM Thesis at the University of Lausanne (Switzerland). She is originally from France and after a cursus in French and English law, she specialized in international business transactions and innovation.
Philippine participated in the 29th Willem C. Vis Moot on International Commercial Arbitration with the team of the University of Lausanne (UNIL), and looks forward to being a coach for the first time this year for Mzumbe University.
Philippine strongly believes that great ideas come from discussions and is thus happy to exchange with students and coaches from a different continent and background around the common goal of promoting arbitration and the rule of law.
